After last week’s mind bending ep, this week’s ep comes as a refreshment from all the games and takes some time to build the bonds between characters.
Here’s my review.
Elkia is rioting and Sora doesn’t give a fuck at all. Sora, along with Shiro, Steph, Jibril, Kurami and Fil are up having a round table discussion. First up: introductions. Why? Well it’s Sora we’re talking about here, nearly everything he does is crazy. During this intro section, we learn some back story about Kurami and Fil, namely how Kurami is technically a slave to Fil. It turns out that Kurami and her family have been owned by the Nilvalens for a long while, so Kurami has grown up under the command of Fil, who treated her kindly and not like a slave. This didn’t sit well with the rulers of Elven Garde at the time. However Fil doesn’t like this whole system and when the last ruler of Elven Garde died, Fil became the leader of the family and plans to free the slaves. Although as Steph points out that’s kinda like committing treason and you could probably hang for that.
Moving on though, the task at hand is dealing with the Eastern Federation and the upcoming game. Sora suggests that the only way they can stand a fighting chance is if they all fight as a team and know each other well. His plan to accomplish this involves taking a bath together as apparently back in the day that was something they actually did. I’m not up on my history so I’m not sure if that’s actually true or Sora was just bullshitting his way into seeing them naked, but whatever the reason we get a bath scene and I’m not complaining at all.
We get a brief check in with the Eastern Federation, who are preparing for the upcoming game, and we also see the leader of them, Miko, but only for a few moments. Back in the castle, Kurami is looking for Sora to talk with him, she finds him in the secret study along with Shiro, as they’re both busy, Shiro reading and Sora reviewing the footage taken from when the were bathing. Classy.
Since their game in the last ep, Sora and Kurami are getting to like each other a bit more and since they also have memories of each other, they can better understand motives and honestly Kurumi isn’t all that trusting in Sora to be able to pull off a win. She’s looked through all his past victories and seen that they’ve all been very close calls. With the Eastern Federation, one wrong move and they’re dead. Sora knows that very well and puts his full trust in his imouto Shiro to cover him when he fucks up.
The big day arrives finally and Sora, Shiro and Steph are off to the Eastern Federation embassy to battle. Arriving at the battlegrounds, they’re greeted by Ino Hatsuse who leads them into a room to wait as the final preparations are made. Sora already has a plan in mind and it involves putting a special spell on Steph, as to what that spell does, or what his plan it, like usual we’re left in the dark until things start unfolding later on during the game. After a briefing on the rules, Sora, Shiro, Steph, Jibril and Izuna are ready to launch into the game, which happen to be a video game, something Sora and Shiro are pro at. But all that changes once they reach the virtual world the game will take place in, Tokyo, a place Sora and Shiro can’t function in due to their extreme NEET-ness as they can’t win once they’re outside in the real world and in the sunlight. Oh boy.
The episode leaves us there with Sora saying they’re doomed. So can they somehow pull together a win after Sora and Shiro’s breakdown? I’m not sure, but we’ll find out next week!
Let’s take a look at a few screen shots from the ep now.
So there you have it, my review for No Game No Life ep 10. Only 2 more now until it’s over; honestly it feels like there is so much left to happen, but as far as I know there isn’t a season 2 happening. Meh, I’d like to see more of this one too, but oh well. So this will be the last review I write until Monday, remember what I said in that one post a few days ago, well yeah it’s finally happening now. I’ll be busy over the next few days, Friday thru Sunday, and I won’t be online except in the evenings but only for a short time as I’ll have to be up early again the next day and the next day until Monday where I can sleep in again. I’ll be reblogging reviews for Knights of Sidonia ep 10 and Mahouka ep 11 as I don’t want to write reviews for them, but I’ll be writing reviews for the finale of Date A Live II (which I’ll download and watch but won’t review until Monday) as well as Love Live. The Love Live review should be it’s normal Monday posting, but expect the Date A Live II ep 10 review to also be up on Monday.
Alright then here’s what we’ll have to deal with next week:
I’ll cya in the next post on Monday!
