This is the fight we’ve been waiting for.

Here’s my review.

So here we are, the final round. Ayato and Julis vs. AR-D and RM-C. It’s the fight we knew would happen ever since the two bots were first introduced and I gotta say, they didn’t disappoint with this fight either. Not only did it look pretty damn nice, but it was very thrilling to watch too. We had all the lead up and such in the previous ep so right from the start we get right into the fight, not wasting any time.

Much like the fight Kirin and Saya fought against the bots, AR-D reads Ayato’s moves and is easily able to counter them, so a straight out head on attack is out of the question but that was obvious from the start. These two aren’t going to be beaten by using brute force alone, Ayato and Julis will need to craft up some good strategies to beat them. With that in mind, Ayato uses some of his awakened power to predict where RM-C will be shooting and is able to dodge her shots. I liked how it was almost as if Ayato and Julis were dancing around the arena, gracefully dodging each attack while dishing out their own. I wish we had more of that in this ep, but as the two work very efficiently they’re able to force AR-D and RM-C to use their combining method to fight back.

Of course it’s not exactly the same as when they used this tactic when fighting Kirin and Saya, since then they’ve had some big upgrades making AR-D’s attacks much more powerful than before. Of course with the Ser-Vesta, Ayato would have no problems here but he’s not using that weapon, just a regular Lux. Transformation complete, the now even more powerful AR-D is ready to go on the offense and get the win. This combining move also leaves RM-C quite exposed, so much so that Ayato is able to rush in and cut her badge, getting her out of the fight. Even so, now they’ve got AR-D to take on, something that’s no easy task.

As all this is going on though, Kirin and Saya are in their own fierce battle to save Flora from her captor. Gotta say this fight had a pretty rough end, something I wasn’t really expecting we’d see in this show. After fighting their way downstairs they reach the room where Flora is being held, Kirin going in first while Saya covers her. Of course Flora’s unnamed captor won’t let them get away to easily, so he comes out of the shadows to fight, landing a very solid hit to Kirin in the process. While Kirin might not be the number 1 student at Seidoukan anymore, she’s still got some crazy skill, something that we see here as when pushed to the limit she’s able to keep her composure and finish off her enemy, or at least get him distracted enough to let Saya line up the kill shot. And when I say kill shot I’m not joking at all.

We’ve seen some people get wounded pretty bad in this show, Haruka being someone who comes to mind, but I’m pretty sure this is the first time where someone has actually been killed in a fight. I find it hard to believe that this ninja guy survived, I mean we see his leg sticking out from under a pile of rubble in a pool of blood. That’s usually a sure sign that said person is dead. Plus he kidnapped a 10-year-old girl and hurt Kirin, he had it coming.

Meanwhile Ayato and Julis aren’t in a good position in the fight against AR-D, being outmatched by the powerful bot. But as all hope looks to be lost and they stand cornered from all sides, Claudia comes to the rescue! Well she’s didn’t actually jump in and save them, but taking over the commentators booth for a moment, she announces that Flora is safe meaning Ayato is free to use the Ser-Vesta. Time to see just how good AR-D is now.

In terms of things happening, this ep wasn’t jam-packed, but it was the battle filled ep that I was hoping for. We’ll have the second part of this fight next week which is understandable, it would’ve been pretty much impossible to cram everything into this ep so in terms of pacing they did this really well. All in all though this was just a solid ep through and through. They advertised a good fight and so far it’s lived up to exactly that. I can’t wait to see how this one will end next week.

So that’s what I thought of this week’s Asterisk War ep, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
